Volunteer
Bangor Area Visiting Nurses (BAVN) relies on volunteers for both its Hospice
of Eastern Maine and Pathfinders: Support for grieving children programs.
In addition, BAVN is grateful to have volunteers who provide clerical
support in the office.
Hospice programs
across the country have been effective due to the involvement of
volunteers who provide patients and families with emotional support,
respite, transportation, meal preparation, companionship, childcare,
and errand running. Volunteers complete a comprehensive training
course, complemented by regular in service education programs.
Call Wayne
Melanson, Director of Volunteer Services, at 973-8269 for
an application packet. A pre-training interview is required.
Volunteers are also
fundamental in the Pathfinders Program: This program offers support
to grieving children and their families. Specially trained volunteers
serve as facilitators, offering age appropriate opportunities for
children and their family members both to express their grief and
learn about the grieving process and develop new coping skills to
handle their losses. Please click

In addition to volunteers
that help patients and families, HOEM volunteers
in various capacities that include fundraising, baking, providing
community education and giving clerical support to HOEM staff.
